Family Hiking

Fish Creek Hike

There are a lot of things to do around Big Bear Lake, California. One activity that is great for all the family is hiking. For a start the views are amazing, you can walk through magnificent forests or lush meadows, and every trail is different.

If your children love nature and meadows, then the Lodge Pole Pine/Siberia Creek Trail is a great idea. The kids will be able to play around in the grass and you can get a break from working, responding to e-mails or playing partypoker online!

A meadow can be found opposite the largest lodge pole pine that is known to exist in the world and the best time to come here is summer, as the flowers will be out and the area will truly be at its most beautiful.

Big Bear Lake is a popular attraction in this area, and you can get a great view of this by taking the Pacific Crest Trail. If you head west from Polique, you will pass through a forest, before hiking across a side hill where you can view the lake. After this part, you then get a great view of Holcomb Valley.

The Woodland Trail is a couple of miles shorter than the previous two, at only 1.5 miles round-trip. This one is especially good for younger children, as it is not too steep or taxing. It provides a lovely nature walk through a forest, with some additional great views.

If you want to hike in a great place that is really high up, but are not sure how to get there, then try the Snow Summit. You can catch a chair ride up to the top of Big Bear’s southern ridge, before hiking off in any direction you want. With so many different hiking trails available around this area, you are sure to find the one that suits you best. So do a little research, and happy hiking!
