Big Bear Lake featured on Huell Howser's Road Trip
Big Bear Lake, Calif., July 10, 2003 Road Trip with Huell
Howser will be featuring the four-season mountain town of
Big Bear Lake and is set to air on KCET this July 20, at 7:00
p.m. (PT). Other Southern California PBS stations including
KPBS (San Diego), KOCE (Huntington Beach) and KVCR (San Bernardino/Riverside)
will air the show over the next few months.
The
Big Bear Lake Resort Association received final confirmation
of Huell's intending visit to Big Bear Lake in February
2003. By mid-May, filming dates and an itinerary were selected
by Huell Howser, which included The Discovery Center, Moonridge
Animal Park, an off-road adventure, Scenic Sky Chair at Snow
Summit, Big Bear Museum and a tour of the village.
During
the two-day filming for Road Trips, the itinerary changed
and included more Resort Association members and more stops
along the way.
"I
had everything and everyone involved scheduled and ready to
go for both days. But by 1:00 p.m. on the first day of filming,
we were already 1-2 hours behind schedule," commented
Laura Kraus, Public Relations Coordinator for the Resort Association.
"Huell was so excited about every thing he saw. We kept
stopping to shoot a picturesque landscape or talk to visitors.
Fourteen hours of film will be edited down to make a one-hour
program".
After
visiting the Big Bear Museum and meeting Tom Core, Huell decided
he needed to come back to shoot "California's Gold"
on an expedition to Holcomb Valley. This footage will be shot
later this month and air next fall. Huell will also attend
the 5th Annual "Music in the Mountains" Gala at
the Big Bear Discovery Center, taking place July 26.
"We're
absolutely delighted that Huell Howser took that mountain
road "less traveled" and was able to spend some
time in Big Bear Valley", said Big Bear Lake Film Office
Manager and PIO Kresse Armour. "It's quite an honor for
us to be included in his "On the Road" series. Big
Bear is beautiful -every day of the year- and we're so glad
that Huell not only got to visit this gorgeous mountain community,
but capture it on film to share with his huge following of
viewers."
The
premise of the series is simple: See where the road leads
as Huell and his cameraman set out on a California highway,
with no particular destination in mind, on a voyage of discovery.
