Serrano
and Pineknot Campgrounds are reservation only. Call 1-877-444-6777
or log on to www.reserveusa.com to make a reservation.
Serrano Campground is located on the north shore of Big
Bear Lake and has easy access to the lake, the Alpine
Pedal Path, Cougar Crest Trail and the activities at
the Discovery Center. This is a great family campground
because of the proximity to recreational activities that
children would be interested in.
RV sites and tent camping
are possible at both campgrounds.
Pineknot is in a hilly,
wooded and beautiful area near the Snow Summit Ski area.
Hanna Flats Campground is located a few miles north of Fawnskin in a
spectacular Jeffrey Pine forest. Water and bathrooms are available and
hiking and biking are excellent from this less urban site. Call the Discovery
Center for more details on these campsites (909-866-3437).
Yellow
Post Camping is remote camping at designated sites. A
flat area has been cleared and a picnic table and fire
ring are provided. These campsites offer a truly deep-woods
experience and campers need to work with a 'pack
in-pack out' mentality. There is no cost for Yellow
Post Camping, but an Adventure Pass and a campfire permit
must be obtained from the Discovery Center.
The
Forest Service maintains a number of Group Camps throughout
the San Bernardino National Forest. These group camps
have picnic tables and fire rings and a cleared area
that can host a varying number of campers. These sites
are often in exceptionally beautiful settings and are
reasonably priced. Contact the Discovery Center for more
information on these unique campsites.
Many
areas of the National Forest are open to self-contained
camping. Cactus Flats and most of Holcomb Valley are
two popular places to drive or hike in and camp remotely.
Campfires are generally not permitted, but camp stoves
are. Carry your own water, make sure to tell someone
where you are going to camp and pack out everything you
pack in.
Holloway's
Marina & RV Park (909-866-5706)
offers RV camping on the Lake. Holloway's offers
full-hookups, picnic tables, barbecues, showers, a laundry
room and has a playground, a basketball hoop and horseshoe
pits plus the services of its marina.
